Local Section Application       National Application

AIHA has several classifications of membership:  Full, Diplomate, Associate, Affiliate, Local Member Section and Student

The Membership Committee reviews all applications before submitting them to the AIHA Board of Directors. You will be notified of approval within 90 days. However, you will begin to receive benefits upon our receipt of your application.  You may apply for membership using the application form, print it out, and return it with your dues payment (see “Dues” below) to:

Do not attach resumes or additional documentation. All relevant experience and information must be included on the application or the approval process may be delayed. Retain a copy for your records.

DUES
$20 Annually for Regular Membership
$10
Annually for Student Membership (You must submit documentation of current enrollment)

LOCAL SECTION MEMBERSHIP
You are encouraged to join your AIHA local section to maximize your membership benefits. Contact information for local sections is available from the AIHA national office or on the web. Local section dues are determined by, and paid directly to, each individual local section. Local section membership is not included in your national AIHA membership.

FULL
A full member shall be a graduate of an accredited school of college grade with a baccalaureate or graduate degree in industrial hygiene, chemistry, physics, engineering, biology, or related discipline who has been engaged a majority of the time for at least three years in industrial hygiene-related activities as defined by the AIHA Board of Directors. The board will consider and may accept any other degree proposed by a candidate who provides evidence of the scientific content of the curriculum. The social sciences are not considered as qualifying sciences. Where an applicant does not have a baccalaureate degree, experience may be substituted on the basis of two years of qualifying experience for one year of undergraduate education. Full-time graduate study in industrial hygiene or related discipline may be accepted on an equivalent time basis for any portion of the required three years experience. A full member may serve on committees, vote, and be elected to the AIHA Board of Directors.

DIPLOMATE
Diplomate members are those individuals who meet the requirements for board certification in their respective discipline as recognized by AIHA. AIHA members in good standing who meet these criteria will belong to the respective diplomate division of AIHA. They will have the same organizational rights as full members.

ASSOCIATE
An associate member shall be a graduate of an accredited school of college grade with a baccalaureate or graduate degree in industrial hygiene, chemistry, physics, engineering, biology, or related discipline who is currently engaged a majority of the time for less than three years in industrial hygiene activities as defined by the AIHA Board of Directors or is a full-time graduate student in industrial hygiene or a
cognate discipline. Where an applicant does not have a baccalaureate degree, experience may be substituted on the basis of two years of qualifying experience for one year of undergraduate education. Membership as an associate member is limited to a maximum of five years. An associate member may serve on committees and vote but may not be elected to the AIHA Board of Directors.

AFFILIATE  
An affiliate member shall be employed full-time in an occupation requiring interaction with and cooperation of associate, full, and diplomate members of the association. An affiliate member may not vote or serve on the Board of Directors but may serve as a member of committees.

STUDENT
A full-time student in an accredited school of college grade at either the undergraduate or graduate level who is pursuing a degree intended to prepare the applicant for practice in the industrial hygiene field or one of its relevant specialties and who is not employed on a full-time basis in the field, may become a student member upon application and yearly submission of adequate matriculation documentation
to AIHA. A student member may not serve on committees, vote, or be elected to the AIHA Board of Directors.

BENEFITS of Membership in the AIHA Hawaii Section
Membership in the AIHA -HI is open to industrial hygienists and other professionals in field of occupational and environmental health and safety. The AIHA-HI has a membership of nearly 100 professionals in Hawaii. Applicants who are accepted by the executive committee will be assigned a membership category based on their educational and professional experience. Categories include regular, associate, student, and emeritus members.
