Allied Health and Safety PBB, (Occupational Safety Specialist), position number 0078711, Environmental Health & Safety Office, (Manoa), Full time, general funds to begin approximately April 2008; (Pending position description clearance); Duties: Develops and maintains a comprehensive health and safety program for construction safety and facilities maintenance operations including lockout-tagout, confined space entry, fall protection, etc. Assists campus departments that have maintenance operations in developing their own written health and safety programs, including safety policies and procedures. Conducts safety audits for maintenance shops on Manoa and Manoa-based Off-campus facilities to identify workplace hazards and provides written reports with operations and recommendations for corrective action. Develops and maintains a monitoring program to identify, evaluate and control exposure to hazardous conditions and materials in construction and maintenance activities. Develops a safety training program for maintenance personnel; assist departments in preparation of specific safety training information and evaluates adequacy and effectiveness of safety related programs and training. Develops an accident injury and illness prevention program. Conducts near-miss and incident investigations to identify causes of injuries or illness. Produces written reports including recommendations for corrective actions to prevent recurrences. Maintains relevant accident statistics and conducts analyses of data to identify potential problem areas operations. Develops training programs or other corrective measures to address these trends. Reviews construction plans for new and existing buildings for compliance with health and safety codes. Coordinates office responses, attends construction meetings and consults with Project Managers on issues relating to construction activities. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications
: Possession of a baccalaureate degree in a basic science and other course work in fields related to the program. Two(2) years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for health and safety inspection and enforcement activities dealing with industrial and/or construction activities; or equivalent education/training or experience. Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in occupational health and safety as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with occupational health and safety and methods and procedures used in conducting safety inspections. Considerable knowledge of fall protection, confined space entry, machine guarding, etc., as it relates to occupational health and safety. Considerable knowledge of methods and procedures used in conducting facilities safety inspections. Considerable knowledge in reviewing construction plans and specifications. Considerable knowledge of general practices and methods utilized in injury/illness prevention programs. Demonstrate ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problem and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software. For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
Desirable qualifications
: Experience working with craft unions and various trades is preferred. Experience in college/university health and safety program. Certification and experience in teaching the 10-hour General Industry Outreach training. Professional certification from nationally accredited organization such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional).
Pay range
: Pay Band B, $3582 per month (minimum)

Quality Assurance Manager

You will be responsible for conducting all Quality Assurance inspections, preparing reports, PCP’s, T&I plans, and following to assure necessary adjustments have been made.  You will also be responsible for the preparation of all necessary correspondence and recordkeeping for the department.  Must be knowledgeable in NAVSEA and other safety & environmental federal and state regulations. Responsible for other miscellaneous tasks as directed by the Chief Operating Manager.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.  High school diploma or equivalent is essential.  You must have at least 3 years of industry experience.

 INDUSTRIAL HYGENIST
Clayton Group Services Inc., a Bureau Veritas company, has a vacancy for the following position: INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST with experience in investigations and remedial activities related to mold, lead-based paint, and/or asbestos. 

JOB SUMMARY
Conduct investigations related asbestos, lead-based paint, and mold and provide oversight and management of contractors conducting asbestos, lead-based paint, or mold remediation activities.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•
Plan and conduct investigations and remedial activities related to asbestos, lead-based paint, and mold;
•
Determine technical method of investigation best suited to project requirements;
•
Collect samples related to project (air, lead paint, asbestos, mold, etc);
•
Prepare, coordinate, and operate the equipment necessary to complete the field investigations; and
•
Respond to client requests and concerns promptly.

EDUCATION AND/OR WORK REQUIREMENTS
•
Possess experience in Industrial Hygiene and Indoor Air Quality;
•
Experience in conducting investigations and remedial activities related to mold, lead-based paint, and/or asbestos;
•
Current certifications;
•
College Degree with emphasis on sciences preferred;
•
Knowledge and experience writing project specifications a plus,
•
Knowledge of Federal and State of Hawaii Regulations;
•
Good verbal and written communications skills;
•
Ability to use personal computers and related software; and
•
Valid driver’s license and auto insurance in order to travel to various work sites.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
•
The employee will work in a variety of indoor/outdoor environments which may include commercial buildings and manufacturing facilities;
•
The employee may be required to bend, lift over 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces or areas with difficult access;
•
The employee may be exposed to inclement weather such as hot, cold, and wet conditions;
•
The employee may work in areas that contain hazardous substances and/or air pollution and may require the use of personal protective equipment and respiratory protection gear (air purifying respirator, self-contained breathing apparatus); and
•
Travel, to various work sites, will be required.
