Professor Howard Cohen, PhD, CIH

Dr. Howard Cohen is a professor and chair of the occupational safety and health department at the University of New Haven in West Haven, CT.  He is also an adjunct professor of medicine at Yale University.  Howard received his MPH and his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in Industrial Health.  He spent the first half of his career in industry including being the Manager of Industrial Hygiene for the Olin Corporation.  He has spent the past 14 years as a faculty member.

Howard has published extensively in the fields of respiratory protection and exposure assessment.  He is a member of the editorial review board of the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene and was the former editor in chief of the American Industrial Hygiene Association Journal.  Howard has most recently served on several committees of the National Academies of Science in the areas of personal protection and in planning for pandemic influenza.

Howard has won a number of distinguishing awards in the field including the 2007 Donald Cummings Memorial Award.  He is a Fellow of the American Industrial Hygiene Association, a former board member and officer of the American Board of Industrial Hygiene, and the current President of the Connecticut River Valley section of the AIHA. Course Objectives: 

· Prepare hygienists seeking ABIH certification to pass the certification exam; 
· Upgrade knowledge for IH’s, occupational physicians and nurses, and safety professionals;
· Provide maintenance point credit for certified professionals 
· The American Board of Industrial Hygiene has approved 5.0 IH CM Points. 
· The Board of Certified Safety Professionals allows up to 3.0 CEC Points for this course.

 


 

Emeritus Professor Steven Levine, PhD, CIH

Dr. Steven Levine, Emeritus Professor at the University of Michigan and our previous course instructor, will be serving as an adjunct course materials planner for 2008.
